You can use Teams for your studies and student life

TLDRoffon

Now we’re operating as virtual campuses we have extended access to Microsoft Teams to all students, so it’s now easier for you to communicate and collaborate with your tutors, our virtual campus services and each other.

Teams is a collaborative space within Office 365, which you can install for free with your university account. Teams are self-service and you can create them for Societies, Sports Clubs or to keep in touch with other groups, including students who have remained in your flat, block or hall.

Your tutors and university support services may also use Teams to work with and support you. GSU will be using Teams to provide advice and as part of their ongoing community-building work within halls of residence.

Teams is a great tool and can enhance how we support and collaborate with each other. However, it has a lot of features and it can be difficult to identify the best one to help you achieve your goal. Our Remote Access webpages have been updated to include information on Teams and the IT Service Desk will continue to support you with technical enquiries as usual. We have also created the Teams Launch Support Team, to help you experiment with and ask questions about features in Microsoft Teams. The team is supported by our Library and IT Support Assistants, who usually support staff and students with IT issues in our Libraries, and FLAS IT JobShop Students, who usually support the FLAS IT Labs.

Teams is not replacing Moodle and Panopto

While Teams does include overlap features with our existing systems, teaching will continue to be delivered via our virtual learning environment. Teams is an additional resource which can be used for small group activity and other student-staff or student-student interactions.

Students in China

Teams is not available in China, so we are working on ways that our students in China can get a similar experience and we hope to have an update for you in the next couple of weeks, Meanwhile, we know many of you have already made arrangements with your course leaders, so please continue to use those ways of keeping in touch.
