Evidence for COVID related ECs - January 2022

TLDRoffon

In light of the recent spread of variants of the coronavirus, we want to support you as best as we can to ensure that you are able to complete your studies and feel safe.

You are encouraged, wherever possible, to meet the deadlines for the submission of assessments and to undertake exams and practical assessments where scheduled. However, we understand that you might experience circumstances that may impact on your ability to submit or undertake an assessment at the specified time.

If you are unable to meet a deadline for one of the following reasons, then you should submit an EC claim providing the relevant evidence as detailed below.

Impact of self-isolation

Coursework - If you have been advised to self-isolate by the NHS, you will only be able to submit a claim for an EC where you can provide supporting evidence as to why self-isolating impacted your ability to prepare for or submit coursework on time.

Exams - For exams taking place online, you will need to demonstrate that the need to self-isolate has had a direct impact on your ability to undertake the assessment in its online format. You will also need to provide evidence to show how and why you are unable to take the exam at the scheduled time.

IT issues - If you have limited network capabilities, access to IT facilities or other computer problems, claims will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Your evidence must demonstrate the impact of the IT problems on your ability to undertake the assessment by the prescribed deadline. We are continuing to keep our libraries and IT lab spaces open for you to access IT facilities and services on campus, therefore claims on the grounds of IT issues experienced at home outside of any evidenced self-isolation period may not be accepted.

Illness related to covid

If you test positive for COVID-19 and the symptoms associated to the virus have impacted your ability to undertake an assessment by the scheduled deadline, you must provide the the following evidence with your EC claim.

For UK based students - A copy of the text or email from the NHS confirming your positive PCR or lateral flow test result. To obtain confirmation of a lateral flow test result, you will need to register your result on the NHS webpage using this link at https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result. You do not need an NHS number to do this. We cannot accept a photo of a positive Lateral Flow Test as valid evidence – you must submit the communication from the NHS confirming the result.

For students based overseas - Please provide evidence of notification of your positive test result from the country in which you received it.

Students providing support for the roll out of the vaccine/booster programme

We understand that some of you are volunteering to support the roll out of the vaccine and booster programme. Where you are providing this support and this has directly impacted on your ability to undertake and complete assessments, then you should submit a claim for ECs including your timesheets or confirmations of shifts worked as evidence to support your claim.

Please note that if you have an EC claim approved, you will still need to successfully complete your assessment(s) once you are given a new submission/sit date.

Any EC claims not related to the impact of COVID-19 will be considered in the usual way.
