STAART Article - STAART ART Prize Competition: Spoons

TLDRoffon

The next STAART ART Prize Competition is running through July and is entitled Spoons. As always, the competitions are open to anybody, of any age, and any location. You can use all sorts of materials, and in the past we have had pencils, photography, embroidery, college, pottery, 3D printed, etc. You can submit as many images as you would like. Please add your first name, your age (if you are comfortable doing so) and a vague location.

The winners are decided by adding up the numbers of likes, emojis and shares. The first prize is a £25 Amazon voucher and there are two runners-up prizes of £10 Amazon vouchers. Voting will close on the 7th August and the winners announced on the 10thAugust. The top 10 images will be printed and displayed in our STAART ART Gallery on our Medway campus from 15th August 2022. We are also hoping our STAART ART Gallery on our Greenwich campus will be installed in the next few weeks.

The majority of STAART members and STAART Allies are aware of Spoon Theory which is why we have chosen this topic. Spoon Theory, in simple terms, is how exhausting it can be to be a disabled person. This exhaustion can be a result of trying to navigate an education system which is not designed for autistic students or having to commute to a place of employment when you have chronic fatigue syndrome. The STAART July Article will also be concentrating on Spoon Theory, but in the meantime, here is a useful explanation for those of you who are unfamiliar with the theory.
