Since September 2015, the University has been required, as a statutory duty under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, to have 'due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism'.
The University is required to have in place suitable policies and procedures to demonstrate sufficient levels of engagement with the requirements of the statutory duty and this includes the provision of suitable staff training.
This online course has been developed with the assistance of sector organisations, including the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and Universities UK, to ensure its relevance to the University. It reflects the view of the University in responding to the statutory duty, namely that the radicalisation of individuals is an aspect of welfare and wellbeing; consequently, in the nature of the approach followed and the level of concern expressed, it is no different to any other issue.
We're committed to improving our overall resilience to radicalisation while maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment. This course is an important part of our efforts to achieve this.
