Doctoral Researcher

Oscar Rodriguez started his PhD at the University of Greenwich, where he has been a candidate since 2020. He is under the supervisory of Dr. Samantha Chaperon (First Supervisor), Professor Neeru Malhotra (Second Supervisor), Dr. Mazia Yassim (Third Supervisor). His primary area of research is focused on developing smart tourism destinations.


Oscar Rodriguez holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Hons) in International Tourism Management and a Master of Science degree in International Business Management, both from the University of East London. While studying at the University of East London, he had the opportunity to study at James Cook University in Australia and was involved in the development of the Drive North Queensland as a tourism destination. In addition, Oscar Rodriguez has an extensive experience working in the hotel management area.

Recent publications

Oscar published a book chapter titled "From Tourism Systems to Smart Inclusive Tourism Ecosystems" in the book Advancing Smart Tourism Through Analytics, published by IGI Global. This work explores the transition from traditional tourism systems to more inclusive, technology-driven tourism ecosystems, contributing to the growing body of research on smart tourism and its potential to enhance inclusivity and sustainability in the development of smart tourism destinations.

Oscar presented at the 26th International Conference in Tourism and Rural Space in National and International Context (TARS), held in Vatra Dornei, Romania, and co-organized by the Romanian Academy - Branch of Iași and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Romania. Oscar presentation, titled "Implications of Smart Tourism in Planning and Developing Protected Areas", explored innovative approaches for integrating smart tourism technologies into sustainable development strategies for protected areas, contributing to ongoing discussions on sustainable tourism and rural planning.
