Make “lights, camera, action” a reality

We’ve some great facilities for Film & TV Production students to hone their creative skills.

“Using the facilities at Greenwich allowed me to make something really special” says Emily George, BA (Hons) Film & TV graduate and a BAFTA-shortlisted filmmaker.

If you’re considering joining Greenwich’s BA in Film & TV Production or MA in Film Production, what’s the lowdown on our facilities?

We have purpose-built Film and TV facilities (a Film studio, a TV studio, Editing/Post-production suites and a Kit room) in our award-winning Stockwell Street Building in the centre of vibrant Greenwich.

Film Studio

Film studiosOur Film Studio has just this year enjoyed an upgrade and is now equipped for Virtual Production! This facility was developed in partnership with Gold Industry Partners MO-SYS - the worldwide leaders in Virtual Production. The film studio now boasts a 6m x 3m ultra-high definition LED wall (one of the most advanced in the country) as well as a 7m² infinity curve green screen.

The LED wall acts as a proxy for a real-world location and can also be used for the high-resolution presentation of digital/graphic data on a significant scale, as well as applications in Extended Reality. Powered by Unreal Engine, this kit will enable cutting-edge research into virtual production by University staff but the technology is something that our Film students will have the chance to use too.

With opportunities to shoot projects against the LED wall and greenscreen, students can gain a valuable, sought-after skillset, allowing them to add Virtual Production experience to their CV upon graduation.

TV Studio

TV StudiosOur Multi-Camera TV studio is equipped with 4 rostrum TV cameras together with a separate control room (or gallery) overlooking the floor, mirroring the set-up for a professional TV studio show. Students will learn all the roles involved in TV Studio shooting from camera operating on the floor, to controlling, directing and recording the show from the gallery above.

This professional TV studio setup provides invaluable, hands-on multi-camera studio experience for any students who may be interested in entering the TV industry.

Edit/Post-production Suites

Editing suitesSome might argue that this is where the real magic happens with students’ work brought to life. (Do have a look at our BA (Hons) Film & TV Production students’ showreels).

This space offers seven individual suites, each with a high-specification Mac Pro computer and calibrated monitor which offer the full set of Adobe Creative Cloud video applications, Avid Media Composer and Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio for editing and colour grading.

This enables students to edit and execute post-production work (including visual effects) to a high, professional standard.

Kit Room

Through the Stockwell Street Kit Room - run by our friendly and knowledgeable tech staff team - film students can access a well-stocked and wide range of industry-standard film, photography, lighting and sound equipment for work outside our studio spaces. In particular, we are proud of our offering of high-end professional cameras including those of the Alexa family, Red and Black Magic cameras.
