Avery Hill had a distinct party atmosphere as we celebrated the official opening of the new sports pitches with competitive matches and a samba band.

Yesterday saw the official opening of our new sports pitches at Avery Hill amidst a festival of sport for Varsity 2017. Congratulations to Team Greenwich who were victorious overall, and also to Team Medway who weren't without victories on the day.

We've a long history of sport in Greenwich, which we're proud of,  as this article by Alumni shows: In pictures: 125 years of sporting history and we're committed to continuous, long-term investment in sports.

It was great to see students, staff, alumni and representatives from the community, as well as some of our key partners including Northern Trust, Charlton Athletic FC, Charlton Athletic Community Trust and Blackheath Rugby Club at yesterday's event.

And the samba band brought an element of carnival - and surprise - to the proceedings.

And lastly, the results
