Greenwich Event Management students organise event in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity

Greenwich's Got Talent is a charity event, created by current Greenwich Events Management students to support Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH). It will be held virtually on Eventbrite, on Friday the 5th of March at 5:45 pm. This contest will give the opportunity to performers to show their talents on our virtual stage. At the same time, it will help in raising awareness about some children's illness and the way it affects them and their families.

This event is part of a module 'Event Production in Practice' from the  BA Event Management course  In this Module, students get the opportunity to organise a live event and transform theory into practice; therefore, to create, produce, manage and evaluate their own event.

The module is lead by Dr Pamela Zigomo of Marketing Events & Tourism Department within Business School.

Greenwich’s Got Talent special guest will be Peter Spagnolo, a 9-month-old boy who has been diagnosed with SMA type 1 when he was one and a half month old. He will be at the event with his mum and dad who will be happy to share their experience and answer to any questions that the audience may have.

In addition, Laura Foy (Fundraising Executive at GOSH Charity) will be presenting the charity vision and mission, and will let everyone know how donations make a huge difference to young patients and their families at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Attendees of the event will have the opportunity to interact with the Guest Speakers and, if they want, they can share their personal experience. Then, they will take the role of judges and vote for the best performers of the “Greenwich’s Got Talent”. Winners will be awarded with real prizes provided by the University of Greenwich, GOSH Charity, as well as two amazing sponsors who deeply care about this cause: Ikikai Coffee and Superba London Wine.

At the beginning of the academic year, students are required to choose a charity from the university list and organise an event to raise funds for that charity. For ‘Greenwich’s Got Talent’ the student team wished to work with GOSH charity as a new collaboration with the University of Greenwich.

The choice came from Simona, as a personal thank to GOSH Charity for looking after someone really special to her. After she pitched to the class, and she got approval from the module leader, Alice and Ania, seeing how great this charity is, decided to join Simona embracing her cause.

All together they created the theme of the event and they started giving life to what was just an idea at the beginning.
