Maria's story

At the beginning of this year, Maria Tasheva from Business School secured her placement role. Here she tells us about her experience of the process.

How did you find out about Greenwich?

I conducted my own research before start preparing my applications and I found out that the University of Greenwich offers one of the best digital marketing courses in Europe.

How was it when you started your course?

I was a bit worried as there is a significant difference between the university curricula in my country and those in the UK. However, I found it really easy to get used to it.

I was supported all the time by the university staff and I found myself feeling comfortable studying and interacting in such a diverse atmosphere.

What influenced your decision about undertaking placement?

It's a complex decision - I was influenced by my friends who have already taken placements; the BSEO (Business School Employability Office) workshops, the GEP (Greenwich Employability Passport) scheme and various extra-curriculum activities.

Did Business School Employability Office (BSEO) support you?

I booked many one-to-one appointments with the BSEO staff who helped me to develop my CV and cover letter. They also provided us with insights into the assessment days at different companies so as to be well-prepared and ready to secure a place.

Tell me more about the social side and your classmates, did they influence your decision too?

Definitely!!! My friends are from all around the world - Lithuania, Poland and Mexico. However, all of us were on the same wavelength that having a placement would definitely benefit our career development.119300

Tell me more about application process, about its biggest challenge and how did you obtain it.

I've been participating in two assessment days only. One at Intel UK and the second one at the company I am currently working in Awin. For me, the biggest challenge of the assessment day was the presentation section as I always feel nervous talking in front of many people.

What have you learned so far? Do you believe that the experience you will gain over the next year will give you a competitive advantage on the labour market?

I got a great insight into affiliate marketing structures, payments methods and tracking models. That gives me a great opportunity to rely on these skills and develop them in the near future.

What is your advice for prospective applicants and those considering placement.

Apply as many times and places as possible!
