As soon as I walked around Greenwich, I knew it was where I wanted to study

Brad Cole is a University of Greenwich aluminus who took the Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status course. He graduated with a First Class Honours and is now a teacher of Year 6 children at Tudor Court Primary School in Thurrock.

Brad is our alumnus who studied on the Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status course. "As soon as I walked around Greenwich, I had a good feeling and knew it was where I wanted to study. The greenery and relaxed atmosphere are what swayed me the most and I knew it had a great reputation which made my choice an easy one." he says.

During his course, he was pleasantly surprised by just how committed the course lecturers were: "I give great credit to my lecturers, who made it fun and were genuinely nice people, and those who you look up to and learn from. Most of the lecturers were brilliant. Special mentions to Roger McDonald, who made me fall in love with reading and English, and Chris Ball who was the most helpful and inspiring man. Also, Kat Vallely and Janet Morris, who you could always go to in need of support or just a general chat and they would be there to listen and give advice. I wouldn't be where I am now without them".

Placements can be one of the most challenging parts of the course, but also, one of the most rewarding: "I found my first placement very challenging and out of my comfort zone. However, my second and third placements, at the school I work now, were brilliant and have moulded the teacher I am. Both of my mentors on placement were so helpful and kind and I was very lucky to meet the people I did. I also met a wonderful headteacher who gave me the job I have now".

Brad went on to secure a place at Tudor Court Primary School and is currently teaching a Year 6 class. He feels he has gained a lot from his time at Greenwich and for those considering the Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status, he had this to say: "I would recommend the course for anyone wanting to become a primary school teacher. You get to meet some brilliant people and make good friends. The course is challenging in many ways, but the reward (having your very own class of children that rely and depend on you and that I get to teach every day) is so worth everything that came before it".

"I will always be thankful for my Greenwich experience and am glad I have such a fond and positive experience there".
