Charlie is one of our continuing students who chose to continue his studies by enrolling on one of the University's PGCE courses: "My decision to study at the University of Greenwich was largely impacted by the history of the university in training teachers for many years with great success. I hoped that the course I chose to study would enable me to develop confidence in being able to speak to large groups and work as part of a team effectively" he says.
During the course, he was pleasantly surprised by how welcome he was made to feel: "Lectures were designed to be engaging for the class making it easy to meet new people and make friends. During my time on the course, I got to know a lot of people who I still speak to today." he says. The course is based at the Avery Hill campus surrounded by green spaces, located in Eltham, south-east London. It has first-rate teaching and sporting facilities, as well as student accommodation and is less than 30 minutes away from central London via train.
Charlie thoroughly enjoyed his course and he found one of the most rewarding parts to be his placement: "Placements were very enjoyable and were full of many people who supported me throughout the process of successfully gaining a placement to the day to day workings on the job". He goes on to say: "During my placement, I worked with different groups of children and staff which I feel prepared me well for the day to day responsibilities of being a teacher. My placement gave me the opportunity to test the skills and knowledge I developed at University in a practical setting, which I feel is invaluable when I look back".
As a teacher Charlie hopes to take what he has learned from his time at Greenwich so that he can really make a difference. "I would recommend the PGCE courses to anyone who is considering a career in teaching; It was overall a fantastic experience which I would recommend to anyone who wants to make a real impact on the lives of others".
