Improving Support for Vulnerable Children

TLDRoffon

Researchers including Prof. Pam Maras, Prof. Claire Monks, Prof. Carl Parsons and Dr. Trevor Thompson at the ILD Centre for Vulnerable Children and Families have worked to improve life outcomes of children.

A major focus has been on features of responsible organisations that determine how effective they are. For instance, research has demonstrated ways to improve collaboration between agencies responsible for safeguarding children, used in National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.

Further work on addressing inequalities in education has provided evidence and insight that informed government reports and briefings, e.g., a report on support for children with special needs for the National Council for Special Education (NCSE). Finally, the Centre has supported charities and policymakers, such as the UK Antibullying Alliance, by providing information on the causes and consequences of bullying.
