
Dr Omorogieva Ojo is an Associate Professor in Diabetes Care & Management in the School of Health Sciences. He is also a Practice Lead in the Institute for Lifecourse Development, a senior fellow of the higher education academy and a registered nutritionist.
Dr Ojo’s research, practice expertise and publications are primarily in the areas of nutrition and diabetes. These have had significant impact on health policy, practice guidelines and in supporting the development of the eNfeed enteral feeding pump in collaboration with Rockfield Medical Devices based in Galway, Ireland.
In particular, Dr Ojo’s work has impacted on health policy and practice guidelines in the management of diabetes and the use of enteral nutrition including: Recommendations from the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) expert group; Chinese clinical practice guidelines for perioperative blood glucose management; American Diabetes Association Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes; International consensus on risk management of diabetic ketoacidosis in patients with type 1 diabetes treated with Sodium–Glucose Cotransporter (SGLT) Inhibitors; Saskatoon Health Region, Canada; Association of British Clinical Diabetologists; India-specific Practice Guidelines on Enteral Nutrition in Dysglycemic Critically Ill Patients; Evidenceābased Danish guidelines for screening of diabetic retinopathy; Irish Hospice Foundation and European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guidelines.
Furthermore, Dr Ojo has contributed to the development of eNfeed enteral feeding pump in collaboration with Rockfield Medical Devices through the development of risk management plan encompassing; Evaluation of the safety and efficacy of the eNfeed enteral feeding pump; Pump flow rate, Viscosity of the feed; Identifying areas of potential risks such as - tube misconnection, leakage from the device, potential adverse reactions to elastomeric material and giving sets. He has also enabled the potential commercialising of the enteral feeding pump by providing feedback on the evidence required for the clinical literature review needed for product certification application; enhancing user/customer experience through the publication of a systematic review to evaluate and provide the evidence of the effect of enteral tube feeding on patients’ health related quality of life; and providing information on the current commercial and marketing strategies of enteral feeding products including information on the development of service level agreements with Home Enteral Nutrition teams in the UK.
