Primary Education student reveals first-hand experiences working in a school throughout COVID-19

Sarah Deadman is our BA Hons Primary Education (3-year) with QTS student.

I am currently working at a hub school supporting three primary schools in the local area. This is where the children of key workers can attend when their parents work on the front line. I had finished my third  and final school placement a week before schools closed and I contacted the head to offer my support in any way I could.

I now work with children of all ages, supporting them with their online learning. I am setting online work, responding to their queries and giving verbal feedback about their work.

I was stressed by the thought of managing in a school setting during the pandemic. However, this experience has prepared me for the difficulties and challenges we will face when returning to work. Offering my help has allowed me to take the load off class teachers from my placement school who are working hard setting multiple online learning tasks, taking part in online training and preparing for schools reopening.
