Report phishing emails in Outlook to keep our digital community safe

Quickly and easily report suspicious emails with the Microsoft Report Message add-in for Outlook. Your reports help our teams keep your data and our systems safe

Report phishing and junk emails with the Microsoft Report Message button in Outlook. This tool will help us quickly identify phishing threats and take action to keep your data and our systems safe. You no longer need to manually forward the email to the IT Service Desk.

How to use the Report Message button

  1. Click on the email you want to report.
  1. Click the Report button.
  1. Choose Report Phishing if you think the email is a phishing email, or Report Junk if you think it's a junk or spam message.

Report suspicious messages so we can act quickly

Whether you report the email as phishing or junk, the email will be removed from your inbox. Our teams will monitor these reports and act as needed.

Only use the Report Phishing option for potential phishing or malicious emails. For general junk or spam emails, the Report Junk option will remove the email from your inbox but the IT Service Desk will not be alerted.

Block or unblock senders in Outlook

Outlook allows you to create Safe and Blocked Senders lists, so you can filter unwanted emails into your junk email folder, and make sure trusted contacts don’t end up in there too. Find out how to block unwanted emails here.

Together, we can create a safer digital environment for everyone at the university

Phishing emails continue to be one of the most common ways for attackers to gain access to an organisation’s systems and data. Many of our colleagues are great at spotting these emails and alerting the IT Service Desk for investigation. Thank you for helping us stay safe online.

By reporting suspicious emails, you can help us to investigate potentially malicious messages, enhance our email protection technologies, and contribute to improving our defences against these types of attacks.
