Our updated Moodle Baseline Guidance can show you how to standardise your content.
Our baseline guidance provides clear direction on how you can standardise your Moodle shell design. This allows consistent design and enhanced interaction within our interaction within our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It outlines 7 key areas:
- Navigation and Course Orientation
- Introduction
- Communication and Interaction
- Learning Resources and Activities
- Assessment and Feedback
- Accessibility and Copyright
- Implementation Tips before releasing
Each section includes Essential and Recommended practices for you to follow. This helps in ensuring all your content is well-organised and has a standardised approach to it. Let your students engage better with your content by providing a predictable and intuitive experience. To help support you with our baseline guidance, be sure to use our Moodle baseline checklist.

Please note that this year we expect all colleagues to follow our guidance when configuring assessment activities in Moodle and to adhere to our naming convention. This will ensure greater data consistency for learning analytics purposes. Please find further details here.
Using the Accessibility Checker on Moodle helps make your content accessible
You can use the Accessibility Checker to help you review your own Moodle content to make it accessible for your students. This tool scans your content and produces a report that scores how accessible your content is. This helps identify areas to change and can be a great way of raising your awareness of what accessible content design is. To use this, you need to be a course instructor or course leader to see this report in Moodle. Click "Reports" in the menu bar, then select "Accessibility Report."
