Celebrating International Women’s Day: Tuesday 8 March

Across the university we are marking International Women’s Day with events, activities and articles highlighting women’s challenges and achievements.

Marked annually on 8 March, International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity at home, in the workplace and within wider society.

The IWD 2022 theme is #BreakTheBias. Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

Celebrating Women at Greenwich

Here at Greenwich we recognise the role we play to influence positive change for women's equality, our role in education is intrinsic to shaping both our internal and external identify, defining future generations driven to fight for equality and shape a mindset that respects women’s rights, celebrates and recognises achievements and creates fair living standards and rights for all women.

In February, we marked International Day of Women and Girls in Science by re-sharing our interview with Dr Nazanin Zand, Associate Professor in Food Science and Nutrition, who shared about why more women and girls should consider a future career in science.

For International Women’s Day we are celebrating and recognising women in education and our achievements over the past year, and celebrating women from history, in the local community and the university who have contributed to outstanding achievements in the past.
