Changes to library opening hours, borrowing limits and due dates

TLDRoffon

As teaching has now all been moved online, we are making some changes to our library services.

Updated 24 March:  Following the Prime Minister's announcement on 23 March, our campus libraries will close at 5pm on Tuesday 24 March.

The libraries currently remain open but from tomorrow (18 March) we are going to change the opening hours for all libraries (Stockwell Street, Avery Hill and Drill Hall) to 9am – 5pm, seven days a week.

Only essential library services will remain in place and there are likely to be fewer staff in the libraries. As with many things in the UK at the moment, we will have to keep reviewing these plans, so please check online before you travel to campus: https://libcal.gre.ac.uk/hours.

We have also put some other changes in place as the situation continues to evolve:

  • To help you plan ahead, you can now borrow up to 40 items.
  • Due dates for all loans are Monday 4 May and you will not get fines if you cannot return books due to future disruption.
  • All pending holds have been cancelled and reservations are unavailable until further notice.
  • All academic support is now available online via LibCal. All our pre-scheduled 1:1 sessions, or group trainings, are available online.
  • Remember that we have a huge electronic collection (ebooks and academic journals) available to you through LibrarySearch with your university username and password. More ebooks are being added daily to help you.
  • To assist you with any remote access issues you may have, we will be here for you at https://libguides.gre.ac.uk/eresources.
  • We have closed our small bookable study rooms to help us increase cleaning capacity everywhere in the libraries.

We will continue to constantly evaluate the situation and evolve as needed. Thank you to all our students who are continuing to be understanding and patient as things change.
