Mitigating climate change talk at Medway campus

TLDRoffon

University of Greenwich geologist and environmental engineer, Professor Colin Hills, will be giving a talk about mitigating climate change at Medway campus on Wednesday 16 October, 6-8pm.

Professor Hills, from the university's Department of Engineering and Science, said: "Carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere are primarily responsible for the unprecedented rate of global climate change. It is not generally recognised, however, that CO2 gas can be used as a feedstock to make everyday products. This approach is called Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU), and technologies for the manufacture of fuels, plastics and mineral-based products are being developed around the world.

"During this talk, I will review CCU and look at the potential of solid waste mineralisation to manage large volumes CO2 gas currently being emitted into the atmosphere. I will provide samples of products for examination and will conduct an experiment to illustrate the efficacy of this pioneering technology, which is being developed here at the University of Greenwich in Medway."
