Our first fully electric bus arrives on our Greenwich campus

Our new bus supports our continued commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030. We can't wait for you to travel on our sustainable bus and support reducing our carbon emissions.

The new bus runs between Avery Hill and Greenwich; stopping at Falconwood station from Avery Hill, and Eltham station / High Street from Greenwich.  It is scheduled to be joined by a second identical model at the beginning of September.

Reducing our carbon usage

Built in Leeds by Switch Mobility (formerly Optare). Each bus should save us around 30 tonnes of carbon per annum compared to the diesel buses and will be charged using renewable electricity at Centaur’s depot in Crayford.

All electric technology

The 300kw batteries will power the 250kw electric motor all day on a single charge. The bus is made of an ultra-lightweight monocoque material helping it to achieve up 150 miles on a single charge. Additionally regenerative braking is deployed to make use of the kinetic energy created when the vehicle is slowing. This is converted into electricity that is used to re-charge the batteries making use of otherwise wasted energy and helping to extend its range.

The bus even has electric heating and cooling system with sensors located all over the passenger cabin areas which allows the bus to provide a continual comfortable ambient temperature.

The bus is the ultimate in comfort, because it's electric it is very quiet there are no awkward gear changes, and minimal vibration perfect for your journey to and from campus.
