The conflict in the Middle East is affecting many members of our university community and we know that some students and staff are directly, and indirectly impacted.
It has also become apparent that there has been an increase in incidents of hate crime in the UK, which is being directly linked to the conflict.
The University of Greenwich has a clear commitment to inclusion and to ensuring that our university is a welcoming and safe place for everyone. This is embedded in our Strategy 2030 and is reflected in our values.
We are committed to creating an environment which is free from harassment, discrimination and bullying.
If you or someone you know has experienced or witnessed any form of harassment, including bullying, discrimination or a hate incident, you can report it anonymously or ask to speak to a trained advisor to get information on reporting options and support available so that you can make an informed decision on what happens next.
Further details about our policies can be found here.
Email offering support for Jewish members of our community
There are societies and groups providing peer support to students, however as there isn’t a JSOC, or society for Jewish Students, following consultation with Jewish members of staff, we have established a new email address - jewishadvice@gre.ac.uk - which can be accessed by a Greenwich email account.
This will be monitored by Jewish staff from the university’s Working Group on Antisemitism and will offer additional support and advice.
Further resources and support
Our staff can access a wide range of information from our Employee Assistance Provider, including counselling services.
Our students can contact the Student Wellbeing Services for additional support, including counselling services.
At this time, we would like to ask all members of our community to be mindful, sensitive, and supportive of those affected by the conflict in the Middle East.
