TEF Silver: A genuine team effort and a job well done Articles

You will have seen the Vice-Chancellor's message congratulating everyone at the university and thanking you for the part you played helping us to achieve Silver in the TEF.  It really wouldn't have been possible without us all pulling together, and it's a good flourish to the end of a successful teaching and learning year.

Below you'll find a summary of the key points as well as practical information about our award, and the message we've published for students about our award.

Our exceptional teaching practice

The TEF assessment  confirmed our teaching is high quality and indicated a number of areas which demonstrated core excellence and allowed all of our students to flourish:

  • "Course design and assessment practices that provide scope for high levels of stretch that ensures most students make progress with their studies"
  • "The acquisition of knowledge, skills and understanding that are highly valued by employers, with the majority of students studying on PSRB-accredited courses"
  • "Personalised provision that secures good engagement and commitment to learning and study from most students"
  • "A learning environment that is supported strategically by investment in high quality physical and digital resources to enhance learning"
  • "The implementation of an institutional culture that consistently facilitates, recognises and rewards excellent teaching"

Our submission

Our TEF submission is published on the TEF pages of our website; it demonstrates our ambition to continue to innovate and improve our teaching excellence to help our students achieve their professional and personal ambitions.

We're proud of our partnership with the Students' Union and of their support and contributions to our submission so the student voice was evident. The sabbatical officers said they "have appreciated this involvement and consistent found student input to be valued". Now we echo their "excitement" in the Silver award which they say "shows clear recognition of the progress our students make".

Practical information about our Silver award

The award, which is valid for three years, is for our whole institution, and is not subject specific and HEFCE advise that "an individual school, faculty, department or course may not claim that it has a TEF award".

The definition of our Silver award is:

  • Based on the evidence available, the TEF Panel judged that the University of Greenwich delivers high quality teaching, learning and outcomes for its students. It consistently exceeds rigorous national quality requirements for UK higher education.

You can see the full list of TEF Outcomes on the HEFCE site and you can also read our external news story.
