Our mentoring scheme is a great opportunity for you to make connections and get advice from an industry professional. Hear from some of our students and their mentors.

Mentoring

If you’re looking for a role model to inspire and support you during your studies, join the hundreds of students who sign up for our mentoring programme each year. You will also have the opportunity to expand your professional network through events and employer engagement opportunities.

Your mentoring questions answered

How does it work?

The University offers three different types of mentoring programmes:

  1. University of Greenwich Career Mentoring Programme
  2. Oracle Career Mentoring Programme (School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences students only)
  3. Graduate Aspiration Programme

Mentoring is an integral part of our employability service, going beyond your university education. The programme creates a bridge that connects experienced individuals, like our alumni and employer partners with current students.

The University of Greenwich Career Mentoring Programme is available to students from all faculties, you can apply throughout your time at university, and up to two years post-graduation. During your time on the programme, you can expect to gain 1-2-1 professional advice, first-hand industry knowledge, an extra boost of confidence and connections to kickstart your career.

The programme runs from January - June, with applications open from September - October. You will have 1-4 hours of contact time per month with your mentor either virtually or in-person.

What will I get out of the programme?

With our mentoring programmes, you'll be able to:

  • Develop your confidence, skills and competencies, including professional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Build your career tools: CV, Cover Letters, social media presence, interview techniques, portfolios etc
  • Gain industry knowledge: Learn how sectors operate and which job types might interest you
  • Set career goals and plan how to get relevant skills and experience for your career
  • Grow your professional network with events throughout the programme

How do I apply?

Applications for the 23-24 Career Mentoring Programme have now closed.

Discovery Days

A Discovery Day is a half-day event that allows you to visit and connect with an employer at their workplace, get an insight into their industry and gain valuable experience.

Keep an eye out on your student email to hear more about upcoming Discovery Days. You can also email the Placements team at employability@gre.ac.uk for more.

Events

There are multiple events that take place throughout the year, including flagship events and sector-focused ones. In the past we've had flagship Careers Fairs and panel discussions which bring employers and students together under one roof.
