Dr Yuemei Ma PhD, FHEA, CMBE

Lecturer in Business Management

Dr Yuemei Ma joined the University of Greenwich in 2023. She holds a PhD in Management Studies and an MSc in Human Resource Management, both from Brunel University London. Before joining Greenwich, she taught at Durham University International Study Centre, supporting international foundation students in their academic transition. At Greenwich, she teaches across foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, including Leadership and Enterprise (INDU1011), Leadership and Communication (BUSI1739), and Teams in Organisations (INDU1107), where she serves as Module Leader. She also supervises dissertations, guiding students in their research projects.

Yuemei’s research focuses on workplace communication, with particular attention to employee relations, engagement, and managing difficult conversations. Applying Grid-Group Cultural Theory, developed by anthropologist Mary Douglas, she explores the cultural thought styles that shape workplace interactions and identifies dynamic patterns of communication. She also integrates innovative methodologies such as Participatory Theatre (applied drama), bringing fresh perspectives to both academic research and management training. Alongside teaching and research, Yuemei contributes to the Management Inquiry Group (MIG) within the Centre for Research on Employment and Work (CREW) and to the BOS Research & Knowledge Exchange newsletter, supporting research-led teaching and wider knowledge exchange. She is dedicated to advancing understanding of human relations and improving organisational practices through inclusive teaching and impactful scholarship.
