Dr Beverly Joshua EdD, MA Ed, RN (ICU), SFEA

Head of School of Health Sciences

Dr Beverly Joshua is the recently appointed Head of School of Health Sciences since March 2023. Previously, she was the Head of Nursing at the University of East London. Beverly is an experienced Intensive Care Nurse and nurse educator / Course Director at a central London university since 2005. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has worked clinically in cardio-thoracic nursing in the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Egypt. Beverly is passionate that nursing students have the knowledge, skills, confidence, and professionalism to make the evidence-based and compassionate decisions required to deliver safe and effective care and to work in multidisciplinary teams across a range of health and care environments.

Working with nursing students from multicultural and diverse learning backgrounds inspired Beverly’s doctoral research where she investigated the correlation between students’ learning approaches and their clinical decision-making, to encourage students to adopt a deep approach to learning. She presented her thesis at the International Nursing Conference in Singapore in 2015 and the European Doctoral Conference in Switzerland in 2016. Beverly is the co-author of 'Professional values and practice' in the Introduction to Nursing for First-Year Students.

Beverly is an empowering leader in developing and supporting educational teams and curricula through changing and challenging times. She has a driven focus on ensuring that our future nurses and healthcare providers are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to fulfil the key roles, be employment-ready, and make a positive impact on society.

Beverly strongly believes in the transformative power of education and therefore continues to enjoy creating educational opportunities that inspire and empower students and colleagues through their development journey.
