Dr Narain (Harry) Chummun RN, RNT, BSc Hons, PhD

Senior Lecturer, Adult Nursing

Dr Narain Harryduth Chummn is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Greenwich.

In 1995, he obtained his BSc Hons in Applied Biological Sciences. His final thesis was about genetics of ageing and in 2000, his PhD focused on the effects of stress hormones (endocrinology) on bone chemistry throughout the life span and in pregnancy.

Harry trained as an adult nurse at the Dreadnought Hospital, Greenwich and worked in practice at various levels in Greenwich District Hospital, St. Georges Hospital, Lewisham Hospital and King Saud University Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

He joined the University of Greenwich, School of Health & Social Care in 1991 as a Senior Lecturer. His academic interest is applied biological sciences (endocrinology and genetics) relating to health and diseases, and his clinical interest lies in care of the elderly. He is lecturer on various pre-registration programs: nursing, midwifery and paramedic science, as well as post-registration pathways, such as health visiting.

He also leads on the implementation and monitoring of the nationally agreed agenda to promote genetics and genomics education for health care professionals within the pre-registration curriculum. He supervises project students at undergraduate, Master's and PhD level.

He has numerous publications on stress management, cardiac and pharmacogenomics in national and international professional journals. He has published chapters on stress and genetics/genomics, and he is presently co-writing a workbook on anatomy and physiology for future health care professionals.

Harry is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB)/UK.
