Senior Lecturer in Built Environment

Dr Fredrick Mbanaso is currently the co-Programme Leader for Occupational Safety, Health and Environment, BSc Hons (Top-up). He is the University of Greenwich subject expert on Safety and Health to SBCS College, Champs Fleurs in Trinidad & Tobago, and HKU SPACE, Hong Kong.

During his tenure in the Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing at Coventry University, UK, Dr Fredrick Mbanaso undertook several key academic leadership roles within the School of Energy, Construction, and Environment. Fredrick served as an examiner for PhD, MSc research projects and other academic programmes, and also served as a Subject Expert, Doctoral College PhD Progress Review Panel (PRP). Furthermore, he was the designated liaison for both IOSH and NEBOSH programmes at Coventry University.

He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, Graduate member of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (GradIOSH), a Member of the Energy Institute (MEI), and Associate member of Institution of Chemical Engineers (AIChemE). He is also a trainer and assessor for NEBOSH and IOSH programmes.

His PhD award from Coventry University was conferred for research work whose main fields of study for the qualification were Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Physical and Terrestrial Geographical and Environmental Sciences. The novelty and impact of the research study were very significant that it generated five (5) published outputs in high-impact Q1 journals and four (4) conference papers among others. His key research areas include Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Management, Sustainable Drainage Systems, Stormwater harvesting, Environmental pollution attenuation and biodegradation etc. As a proficient Researcher with strong analytical skills in Environmental Microbiology & Ecotoxicology, and Sustainable Water Resources, he has run several industry-linked consultancy research projects for one of Coventry University’s Research Centres, Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience (CAWR). Some of the outputs from these projects supported some of CAWR’s Key Metrics and acted as pilot projects for the Horizon 2020 bid under the call WASTE-7-2015.

Prior to entering academia, he had amassed over 9 years of extensive experience in the energy industry at TOTAL, a French multinational energy company. His diverse roles encompassed Lubrication Engineering, Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) Management System, Specialties Engineering, Supply Chain and Logistics Management, Tribology, Personnel Training, Client Services and Prospecting. During his time at TOTAL, he earned multiple awards, notably achieving the highest recognition, "Greatly Exceeds Expectation (GEE)," during the annual performance review appraisal, in recognition of his outstanding performance.

As an experienced Mentor, Fredrick is passionate about mentoring MSc students into potential PhD candidates, an initiative that has yielded successful PhD completions and others under supervision. He is also enthusiastic about mentoring undergraduate budding talents, nurturing their potential for both academic and professional excellence.
