Roneish Myers

Founder, Moneyheave

My degree has helped me tremendously because I was able to get a job as an Assistant Commercial Accountant. This helped me enter the financial industry at a certain level . . . and has impacted my later career journey through to founding MoneyHeave.

Roneish Myers is a financial coach, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Having completed a BA in Accountancy and Finance, Roneish has held accountancy jobs across a number of industries, before founding MoneyHeave, a financial coaching service, in 2020.

Roneish’s interest in accounting and finance developed at a young age. Her uncle was an accountant, while her mum let her help with managing the family finances. “I was fascinated by numbers and I enjoyed maths. I also used to play a lot of games like Payday and Monopoly. ” The Accounting and Finance programme at Greenwich was therefore “the exact course I wanted to study and, having grown up in South East London, it made sense. ”

While at Greenwich Roneish was a student representative, striving to improve the course and student experience for her peers. She was also active in seeking the skills and support needed to help her succeed as a student. “I was part of the mentoring programme in each year of my degree, which exposed me to new connections and prepared me for the working world. The employability team also helped me with interview preparation and developing my softer skills. ”

Roneish was also the recipient of the Robert Holman Bursary, to assist with financial costs during her final year of study. She is grateful for the award, which meant “I was able to fully focus on my studies, which contributed to me achieving a first-class degree. ”

Following her studies, Roneish has enjoyed a varied career. She immediately went to work as an Assistant Commercial Accountant before gaining promotion after six months. By the age of 25 she had joined another organisation as its Finance Manager. She also worked in Ghana as a consultant, as well as in the film and TV industry with Netflix, before founding MoneyHeave. “The variety of experiences I have enjoyed has helped me to identify what I love to do and what I don’t; enabling me to pursue my passions. ”

As a philanthropist, Roneish has generously given her time and expertise back to Greenwich. She has been a judge of the Enterprise Challenge, has spoken at the inaugural Student Conference and has been a guest speaker as part of the Power Talks series. “I’m a philanthropist at heart and so it’s very natural for me to give. Throughout my career I have had various mentors and have received support, so I feel it’s only right to give back where you can and make that difference to someone’s life. ”

Growing MoneyHeave is one of Roneish’s proudest achievements to date. “The ability to provide others with an opportunity amazes me. Within such a short space of time we’ve been able to provide jobs not only in the UK. Our clients are global and to date we have been able to financially empower professionals and entrepreneurs around the world to better manage their money and build wealth. ”

For those looking to launch their own business or social enterprise, what’s Roneish’s advice?

“I would say, go for it! Even if you don’t have it all figured out, take the steps that you do know. It’s an amazing feeling when you see your idea come into fruition. ”
