In 2019, the university committed to transforming the campus into a more accessible and inclusive environment, enabling teaching, learning, living, and socialising to take place in a vibrant modern campus.
To add to the already impressive facilities such as our sports hall, all weather sports pitches, a sustainable edible garden and student accommodation there is now a brand-new modern library. Not only does the library offer lots of teaching and learning resources, but it also boasts five bookable study spaces, one of which is a silent study space, four open access study spaces and an Academic Skills Hub.
The campus has also seen some of its teaching space upgraded, including a new art and design room.
The university is extremely proud to house a clinical skills and simulation centre which includes a complex specialised teaching space. Our Clinical Skills Labs include three state-of-the-art simulated hospital ward areas that create a safe and realistic environment for students to learn. The space also comprises of three "real life" consulting rooms. We have a number of lifelike clinical skills manikins, which not only have the ability to breath, have their pulses taken, bleed, talk, let you know when they are in pain, but they can also undergo a series of medical procedures such as a collapsed lung and even give birth. What is even more amazing is that the labs also have the ability, to capture all teaching activities via hi-tech AV and equipment.
In addition, Sparrows Farm provides further stimulation spaces for paramedic and nursing students, one being a flat where students can practice community nursing, responding to lifelike situations within the setting of a real home.
Sparrows Farm is also home to a new dedicated strength and conditioning area for sports science students. Mark Chapman, Senior Lecturer, Sports Science said: "The extension of sports science facilities at Sparrows Farm will increase our teaching and research ability offered to students and researchers. This will help to develop high-quality work and services to the community, providing the momentum to create a valuable student experience and increasing key skills to improve future employment opportunities."
