Sion Thomas has been a Senior Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Psychology at the University since April 1999. He is responsible for the management of the undergraduate modules on both our BA Physical Education & Sport as well as the BSc Sports Science degree programmes. He also leads the Applied Sport & Exercise Psychology module on our BPS Accredited MSc in Sport & Exercise Psychology degree programme that is now in its 6th year.
Sion has been attached to Kent County Cricket Club since 2002 as their Sport Psychologist, and in that time has worked with several of the players who lifted the t20 trophy at Edgbaston last weekend. Many of the players who played in both the semi final and final on Saturday have come through the successful Academy programme at Kent CCC. For example, Sion has worked with Sam Billings, the captain and current England International since Sam was 14 years of age.
Sion believes that it is fundamental for students at all levels of study to be provided with a real insight into the applied nature of working in both recreational and elite sport. By harnessing his experiences as an applied practitioner for over 20 years students can further benefit from being able to link theory to practice across the carousel of sport psychology related modules that we offer across undergraduate and postgraduate study here at the University.
