Introducing the Greenwich Engineering Society

We welcome students from all engineering disciplines at the University of Greenwich, from first years to postgraduates. No experience is needed, membership is completely free.

At the Greenwich Engineering Society, we want to give students an enjoyable, supportive place to learn, create and connect. Our main aim is to enjoy engineering beyond lectures and coursework, while building confidence, skills and friendships. We welcome students from all engineering disciplines at the University of Greenwich, from first years to postgraduates. No experience is needed, membership is completely free.

Open to everyone

Anyone can join even if they are new to engineering or studying a different course. You do not need any special skills or background, just an interest in engineering and a willingness to get involved. We encourage people to join at their own pace and take part in whatever way feels comfortable for them.

More than just studying

We believe university life should be more than just exams and deadlines. That’s why we organise activities that combine learning with enjoyment, such as workshops, small hackathons, site visits and guest talks from people working in engineering. These events help explore real‑world engineering in a relaxed and friendly way, without academic pressure.

Making friends and feeling welcome

We know that many people feel nervous about making friends or joining a society for the first time so we really want our Society to feel welcoming and relaxed. Meeting up, discussions, games and social events are just some of the ways we help you meet like‑minded people and build friendships naturally. It’s OK to feel nervous, you don’t need to know anyone before joining, just turning up is enough.

Skills for the future

Being part of our Society can help students gradually build skills such as teamwork, problem solving, communication and confidence. We also plan to offer relaxed CV workshops and placement talks led by students who have taken part in internships. By listening to real experiences, our members can gain a clearer and more comfortable understanding of engineering careers and how to prepare for them.

An inclusive and supportive Community

Inclusivity is very important to us. We welcome students from all backgrounds and make sure our events are accessible, low‑cost or free. If you are new to the university, we want to make sure you feel supported, involved and excited about university life from the start.

How to get involved

Joining our Society is simple and free. Students can stay connected through our Discord and WhatsApp groups, as well as the Greenwich Students’ Union and hub website. We also encourage members to share their ideas so we can create events that reflect what students really want.

What the Society means to us

The Greenwich Engineering Society is more than just a student group, it is a community. We want members to express their creativity, grow in confidence and make memories that last even after they graduate. We believe every engineering student should join at least one society, and we hope ours becomes a place where students feel inspired, supported and proud to belong.
