TLDRoffon

27 June - 21 July 2022

Course outline

Practical Teaching is a four-week-long course providing a practical introduction into learning and teaching in higher education. This will be a blended delivery with a mix of online and on-campus sessions (at Greenwich & Medway).

There will be five sessions covering different themes in relation to higher education pedagogy:

  • Session 1: How we learn & Inclusive teaching
  • Session 2: Engaging students in lectures
  • Session 3: Small group teaching
  • Session 4: Developmental assessment and feedback
  • Session 5: Micro-teaching

The programme sessions will be conversational and highly interactive. For maximum benefit, participants should commit to attending all of the sessions.

There is no assessment for this course. We will work together as a small community to explore methods for effective teaching. This will be a safe and supportive space where all ideas and practices are respected and welcomed to the course as valuable learning resources. A fun micro-teaching session at the end of the course will give the participants the opportunity to practise some of the approaches discussed in previous sessions.

Who can join?

All University of Greenwich staff with teaching responsibilities are welcome to the course. The sessions are designed for participants who might be new to teaching or who would like to begin developing some key skills in their teaching practice.

To register, fill in this form.

By the end of the course…

We hope that you will feel more confident in your teaching. We also hope that the methods we use in the sessions and discussions with colleagues will help you teach in more effective and inclusive ways.
