Reconnecting to eduroam after a Wi-Fi security certificate update

How to reconnect to eduroam after a Wi-Fi security certificate update

We are updating our Wi-Fi security certificate during the network ‘at-risk’ period between 7am and 9am on Thursday 28 August.

The next time you are on campus, you may need to accept a new Wi-Fi security certificate before you can connect to our network.

If you cannot connect, the action you need to take depends on whether you connect manually or use the eduroam Configuration Assistance Tool (CAT) either directly or via the geteduroam app.

Uninstall, then re-install the eduroam CAT file

If you have already installed the geteduroam app, or downloaded the eduroam CAT file, you will need to delete the application from your mobile device and reinstall it once the certificate has been updated. Our wireless page has the latest instructions and up to date links to the eduroam CAT tool and geteduroam app.

Or, accept the new certificate if you connect manually

If you connect manually to eduroam, you will see a message asking you to accept the new certificate. Please accept the certificate by following the prompts on your device.

If you have problems connecting to Wi-Fi on campus, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Security Certificates are just one of our layers of security

The updated certificate validates that the wireless network that you connect to is provided by the university. This also allows for secure end-to-end encryption of data over the wireless network.

While we keep our security certificates up to date, the best thing you can do to protect yourself is make sure your devices and apps are as up to date as possible and continue to update them regularly.

If you require any further information, please contact the IT Service Desk.
