Windows 11: upgrading all our devices ready for September

We are working with faculties and directorates to schedule upgrade work and install replacement hardware across our campuses. You can help by upgrading your device and helping us access your student spaces

Your early support will really make a difference

This isn’t just a technical upgrade - it’s a university-wide step toward a smoother, faster, more secure digital experience for everyone. By working together, we can:

  • Minimise disruption to teaching and research
  • Avoid network bottlenecks
  • Ensure every device is ready for the new academic year

To make sure we achieve this, we need your help with a few key things:

  • Room access: If your area includes spaces that need booking for upgrades, please help us confirm access as soon as possible.
  • Device scheduling: We’re working with faculty and directorate IT teams to plan imaging schedules and avoid network congestion.
  • In-place upgrades: Self-service installation will be made available to you soon through Software Center. We will update faculty teams and internal communications channels when this is available.
  • If you don’t yet have an Intune laptop or if your current laptop is more than six years old, please contact the IT Service Desk to request a new device.  You can also support the rollout by returning any outdated hardware that you have.

You may start to see the new system soon:

  • Several faculty teams have confirmed who will coordinate their device upgrades.
  • The Windows 11 image has been tested across multiple directorates, with support from the AV team to resolve early issues.
  • We began a soft rollout on 19 May, starting with podium devices.

If you have questions, need support, or want to confirm your team’s involvement, please reach out to your local IT contact or check the project website.
