The University of Greenwich has been ranked as one of the top universities for teaching excellence in Europe.

Greenwich Campus In results published today by Times Higher Education (THE), Greenwich features in the top 151-200 group of universities. There are around 3,300 higher education establishments in the EU and around 4,000 in the whole of Europe.

Professor Javier Bonet, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost of the university, says: "To be in the top 200 universities in Europe is a great achievement and shows the fine work that is happening at this university. We are committed to excellence in our teaching, as well as our research, and this continues to move us up the university rankings.

"We are always keen to improve further and will continue to focus on supporting our academic and professional staff. Our students are key to everything we do here and we will continue to do everything we can to help them excel."

THE bases its tables on four core performance elements: resources, engagement, outcomes and environment. A key factor is the result of THE's European Student Survey, which examines a range of key issues.

These include students' engagement with their studies, their interaction with teachers, the quality of services at the institution and their opportunities to develop skills which help prepare them for a career after university.

Greenwich's is also on the rise domestically. In this year's Complete University Guide tables, Greenwich rose 13 places to 83rd and was listed as a "notable climber", after rising 24 places nationally in the last four years. The University is now at 13th place overall in London, up from 17th place last year.

Also this year, the university featured in the first-ever global ranking of universities' social and economic impact. Greenwich is in the top 101-200 positions generally and rated highly for reduced inequalities (joint 67th in the world); gender equality (85); and responsible consumption and production (90).

The university has international students from over 160 countries, and there are around 17,000 students studying overseas and over 20,000 learning in the UK.
