This year’s programme includes a documentary screening, the launch of a professional support scheme for BAME colleagues, and more.
Nominate your Unsung Hero
Thursday 1 October to Sunday 25 October
As part of this year’s Black History Month celebrations, the BAME Staff Network is inviting colleagues to nominate an Unsung Hero and recognise someone whose contribution deserves to be celebrated.
The initiative reflects this year’s theme, Honouring our Communities, providing an opportunity to shine a light on people whose contributions, support and positive impact may not always receive the recognition they deserve.
Nominations opened at 9am on Thursday 1 October and close at 11.59pm on Sunday 25 October 2026.
All nominees will be entered into a prize draw, with five £50 Amazon vouchers to be won. Nominations can be made via Microsoft Forms. The nomination link will be shared in a separate email and on the BAME Staff Network's Teams platform.
EITAI screening
Tuesday 13 October, 2pm to 3pm
Hybrid: QA274, Greenwich Campus and online via Microsoft Teams
Join us for a screening of EITAI, an award-winning documentary written and directed by Dr Sally Bashford Squires, Senior Lecturer in the School of Human Sciences.
The documentary explores how communities in Teso, north-eastern Uganda, are using collective action, indigenous knowledge and social enterprise to respond to challenges including climate change, poverty, gender-based violence and public health.
The screening offers an opportunity to explore the strength of community-led action and the role that local knowledge and collaboration can play in creating positive change.
Launch of Professional Support Scheme for BAME staff
Monday 19 October
Online
The BAME Staff Network will launch a new Professional Support Scheme for BAME staff, offering support including mentoring and coaching.
Further information about the scheme and how colleagues can get involved will be shared online.
