The theme for Black History Month UK 2025 is “Standing Firm in Power and Pride". It celebrates the resilience, strength, and enduring dedication of the Black community worldwide.
The theme focuses on two core values: power and pride
Power represents the influence, leadership, and capacity to effect positive change.
Pride reflects cultural identity, heritage, and the celebration of Black excellence.
This year’s theme is not only about remembrance but a call to action. It invites individuals and communities to stand firm in their power with pride and to actively shape a world where Black voices are heard, valued, and celebrated. - www.blackhistorymonth.org.uk
Tell us the stories of Power and Pride
This year’s theme recognises the significant contributions of Black leaders, activists, and pioneers who have shaped history, while also looking ahead to a future of continued empowerment, unity, and progress.
We would like to invite you to share any stories, reflections, or experiences that connect to this theme.
You can submit your stories to InternalCommunications@greenwich.ac.uk
We will share your submission as an article on our portal as part of Black History Month.
About Black History Month
Black History Month is marked every October, in the United Kingdom, with a range of events. University of Greenwich is marking the month by bringing together a series of activities being organised during the month and beyond.
Black History Month began in the 1920s in the United States and has since grown to become a key cultural observance for many organisations across the globe, including universities.
This month provides us with an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate Black histories, highlighting the achievements, experiences, and contributions of Black individuals and communities, both past and present.
