Cutting edge work from the University of Greenwich School of Design launches this week with the school’s first virtual end-of-year-show.

The show is always one of the highlights of the year and this year's, launching on Friday 31 July, is testament to the students' skill and determination. 120218

"These students are not the unfortunate year who missed out, but the year who rose to the challenge. The year who dealt with unprecedented pressure and stress to fulfil their potential," says Head of School, Professor Stephen Kennedy. He continues, this "amazing work is testament to these students' enduring creative talents and capacity to overcome adversity. We look forward to displaying it in our gallery spaces."

The exhibition will showcase final year students' creations from Animation, Architecture, Digital Arts, Film & TV, Graphic & Digital Design, Landscape Architecture, and Media & Communications.

Laseni Olabode graduated with a first in Media and Communications. As part of her degree she created a three-strand ad campaign looking at the dangers of skin bleaching.

She said: "I loved my course. My lecturers were always there to help, even when it felt like things were getting too much. I think the virtual show is going to be great. Last week's virtual graduation was a lot of fun and a really nice way to remind ourselves that, even with everything that's going on, this was an important moment to mark."

This year's suite of catalogues has been designed to consider inclusivity of the visually impaired. The design uses a complementary colour palette and exercises maximum contrast in the use of both colour and type weight. For the print edition, the aim is to include aspects of tactility in order to further enhance their approach.

Dr Anastasios Maragianni, Deputy Head School of Design, added: "Design is one of the disciplines that can empower people and provide design solutions that could enhance communities. Our students responded to this opportunity and have designed for social change and social empowerment."

Professor Kennedy added: "As we retreated into the 'safety' of our digital cocoons the students' creative and critical skills were tested to their limits, and these efforts have been well rewarded. The School of Design continues to go from strength to strength, and the work presented here attests to its growing reputation and standing as a creative institution of national and international standing."
