Food, fun and friendship - keeping you safe in halls

We want all our students remaining in halls to not only remain safe, but enjoy their time as much as is possible, so as well as making sure you have access to food, supplies and support, a range of virtual 'social' activities are being arranged.

We've created a specific set of FAQs for our students still in halls that you can read here. They go into more detail on how you can get support, including food delivered to you, who you can contact for help or with questions, dedicated support for care leavers, and what will happen about your halls fees in the coming months. 

In the meantime, the importance of keeping social while keeping distanced, has not been forgotten. Fun and friendships are as an important a part of student life as your studies.

The Greenwich Students Union (GSU), residence life coordinators from Accommodation Services and other university departments are organising virtual events, contests and games for all our student in halls.

The chaplains have also organised a Virtual World CafĂ© for all students on Thursday 2 April, and you can find the details on how to take part on the portal. 

Many more are being developed, and although the details aren't quite finalized yet, here are some of the things that are coming up:

Greenwich Students Union (GSU)

New social media pages have been created for halls students which GSU will use to find out more about what activities you would most like. In the meantime, the ones being considered are:  

  • discussion/information forums
  • book/film/TV/music/discussion clubs
  • home challenges/leagues
  • language-learning
  • virtual volunteering opportunities
  • online speed-friending
  • fitness/exercise sessions
  • virtual study groups
  • takeaway nights
  • mindfulness activities
  • online focus groups
  • society/sports club activity sessions

Accommodation Services residence life

The accommodation officers, who also act as ResLife coordinators are planning:

  • online art submission contest
  • discussions on books /poems – best interpretation wins
  • Netflix parties
  • photo contests
  • themed weeks with activities including themed quizzes and photo contest
  • film, TV and video game quizzes
  • spring themed activities
  • Greenwich history quiz
  • online forums
  • online games – jack in the box / bingo, etc.
