Free ‘Survival Service’ for International students at Greenwich

TLDRoffon

Over 2,000 international students will be given a helping hand and a warm welcome to the University of Greenwich this Autumn, thanks to a new partnership with Great British Mag.

The University has partnered with the digital magazine and will be offering every student a free subscription to the magazine's new UK Survival Service.

The service brings together content, products and services to help international students from pre-arrival to graduation, including:

  • Help with opening a UK bank account before arrival
  • A UK phone number and SIM with £5 credit before arrival
  • Access to discounts on products and services
  • A weekly e-magazine packed with useful and fun articles
  • Invites to webinars and events on topics such as how to get a job after graduating.

Chris Shelley, Director of Student and Academic Services from the University of Greenwich, said: "We're delighted to be working with GB Mag to provide this free access as part of our sector-leading international welcome activities. We're committed to supporting the wellbeing of our students and this will not only help to make students' first few days in the UK as comfortable as possible, it will also continue to provide relevant, tailored advice and support to them throughout the year."

The founder of Great British Mag, Wahida Ashiq, said: "The service was born out of listening to the problems international students face when it comes to moving to the UK, assimilating on and off campus and thriving academically. The service has been designed to feel like a local friend is helping the student from pre-arrival to graduation."

She added: "I am really pleased to be working with the University of Greenwich - a university that is setting the gold standard on how to welcome and look after the wellbeing of international students."

The service will also be available to international students joining the university in January 2021.

The International Welcome Programme will be launching late August – visit www.gre.ac.uk for more information.
