Greenwich awarded gold by National Cyber Security Centre

University of Greenwich has officially been awarded Gold Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (Gold ACE CSE) status by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

As a Gold ACE‑CSE institution, cyber security students at the University of Greenwich will graduate from programmes formally recognised by the NCSC, enabling them to receive an NCSC‑certified qualification.

This recognition reflects the strength, quality, and continuous enhancement of the University’s cyber security programmes.

The University of Greenwich is already recognised as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE‑CSR).

With this latest achievement, Greenwich is now one of only nine universities in the UK to hold both ACE‑CSE and ACE‑CSR status, highlighting excellence across both cyber security education and research.

The University’s impact has also been acknowledged nationally. Last year, the NCSC developed a use case highlighting the University of Greenwich, showcasing its approach to cyber security education and research: www.ncsc.gov.uk/case-study/the-university-of-greenwich

Professor Georgia Sakellari, Professor of Networked Systems and ACE‑CSE Director at the University of Greenwich, said:

“Achieving Gold ACE‑CSE status is a significant milestone for the University of Greenwich. Our priority has always been to deliver an outstanding, career‑focused education. This recognition ensures that graduates leave with strong academic foundations and a qualification formally recognised by the National Cyber Security Centre, giving them a clear advantage as they enter the profession.”

She added:

“Beyond degree programmes, the University is committed to inspiring the next generation through outreach with secondary schools, encouraging more young people to pursue qualifications and careers in cyber security. At the same time, our expertise in cyber security research and teaching actively contributes to university‑wide policy and promotes a strong cyber security mindset across the entire University of Greenwich community, not only among those studying the subject.”

Dr M. Taimoor Khan, Associate Professor of Cyber Security and ACE‑CSE Deputy Director at the University of Greenwich, said:

“Gold accreditation by the NCSC for the University’s ACE‑CSE demonstrates sustained dedication to delivering practice‑oriented, research‑informed, and career‑relevant education in cyber security . This recognition strengthens students’ career prospects and confirms the University’s leadership in preparing graduates to address complex and evolving cyber threats effectively.

“The strategy aims to extend influence and promote cyber security awareness beyond the institution, contributing not only to strengthening university‑wide cyber security programmes and policies, but also to advancing scientific innovation, enabling confident and cyber‑aware digital solutions, and fostering cyber‑responsible communities.”

Chris Ensor, NCSC Deputy Director for Cyber Growth, said:

“I’m delighted that the University of Greenwich has been recognised as a Gold Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education (ACE‑CSE) by the NCSC. Developing the next generation of cyber security professionals is vital to the UK’s digital future, and this recognition reflects the University’s commitment to delivering outstanding education and strengthening the cyber skills pipeline.”
