Horizon continues to be one of our core systems and, from 1 October, colleagues will be able to record their own sickness absence directly in Horizon. This enhancement will provide a more efficient and user-friendly way to manage sickness absence and follows a process that is similar to booking annual leave in Horizon.
What you need to do
- Report your sickness absence to your line manager as usual.
- On your first day of sickness absence, log in to Horizon and record your absence using the Absence tile.
- Update your record and upload Fit Notes where required.

- No need to send paperwork to your line manager or the People Directorate for processing.
- No Self-Certification form to complete.
- Ability to upload and manage your own Fit Notes.
- Access to your sickness absence record at any time.
- Shared visibility of absence records for you and your line manager.
- A quicker, simpler, and more streamlined process.
