Introducing 'The 1890' our new digital alumni magazine

TLDRoffon

1890 to recognise our past as one of the early modern universities. Our first edition also includes our first digital Supporter Roll, acknowledging alumni and friends for their voluntary and financial support in 2019/20.

In 1890, Woolwich Polytechnic (our forerunner) was founded as only the second polytechnic in the UK, so it's a fitting name for our new digital alumni magazine.  You can find The 1890 on the alumni website.

Showcasing our alumni community

The magazine brings together content from around the university to celebrate and acknowledge the activities from the 2019/20 academic year. It shares stories from the our university community, showcasing the important and internationally recognised work of our academics, and brings our university heritage to life.

Supporter Roll: thanking our alumni and friends

We're proud to share our first digital Supporter Roll in our first edition.  This acknowledges alumni and friends for their voluntary and financial support in 2019/20.

Thank you to everyone who supported this initiative by sharing their volunteers and donors with the Alumni & Development Team. If there is someone who you would like to acknowledge who isn't on the Supporter Roll, please contact Mary Davies.

Thank you to staff from across the university for your help launching and contributions to The 1890.  In this edition you can read an introduction by Prof Jane Harrington, 'Mentoring Matters' by Dr Emma Pleasant on the important role alumni have guiding students and Will Robley for bringing to life the history of Mansion site in 'Mansion Memories'.

Engaging with our alumni and supporters

Earlier this year we published an article on the support available for you, and how you can support our Alumni & Development team, in the coordinated approach to engage with our large community of alumni effectively.  We've updated this article with the upcoming Alumni newsletter deadlines, and our alumni team look forward to receiving your submissions.
