Graduating students: do we have your correct name and address information?

We require all students to keep their information up to date, but it's especially important if you're graduating this year to ensure your certificate and transcripts are issued correctly.

If you have changed your name since you registered and have not officially notified the university of this change and provided the appropriate evidence, your certificate and transcript will be issued in the wrong name.

Students are also responsible for the accuracy of their address information.  So if you have changed either of these please follow the guidance below to let us know your changes.

Change of Name

We require you to notify us as soon as possible of these changes, but especially when your final assessments and exams finish.  After you have successfully completed all your studies and assessments, a Progression and Award Board decides the outcome of your degree (or other award), resulting in the production of a degree certificate and other associated documents.

The name on our systems at the time the Progression and Award Board make their decision will be the one we will use for your certificate and this cannot be changed or updated after this time*.

To request amendments

Via email: Please email the Student Centre at StudentCentre@gre.ac.uk to request amendments. Please allow three working days for any amendments to be made.

You will need to provide:

  • your banner ID number
  • a suitable copy of original evidence detailing your name change (passport, marriage cert, deed poll etc.)

Visit the Student Centre: You can visit any Student Centre during their opening times with your Greenwich Gateway card and the evidence detailing your name change. In most cases the team will update your profile straight away.

However, if this request comes to the Student Centre after the Progression and Award Board have officially awarded you your degree (or other qualification), the name cannot be amended, and the team will have to decline your request.

*Special consideration will be given to individuals who have undergone gender reassignment but evidence of the change of name, such as deed poll, will still be required.

Remember, if you know that you have not updated the university with a recent name change please contact us as soon as possible.

Updating your address

You can update your address information on the portal using the Student Records link, selecting 'Personal Information' and then 'View/Update Address(es) and Telephone Number(s)'.

Please remember: 

  • International students must have a UK Term Time Address and that your permanent address will be Non-UK.
  • Mailing Addresses are recommended for international students.
  • Permanent Addresses show where you live outside term time.
  • We will use your Permanent address for sending documents or correspondence if you do not have an active Mailing Address.
