Are you leaving halls this year?
Do you have items you no longer need?
Then donate them to the British Heart Foundation!
Greenwich students living in halls have donated 26 tonnes of items since 2010. This has saved 258 tonnes of carbon emissions by the reuse and recycling of items. In the past three years these items have gone to the BHF, and through student donations this has raised over £18,000 to help fund life saving research.
What can I donate?
- Clothing (but not underwear!)
- Kitchen utensils; pots, pans, cutlery, plates etc.
- Books, CDs and DVDs
- Stationery (pens, pencils, notebooks etc.)
How can I tell if my item(s) are suitable to donate?
Your item(s) will help raise money and may help those less fortunate. We need to make sure that only good quality items are donated.
- All items must be clean! Any stains make the item not suitable.
- All items must be in good condition! Any holes, tears, rust or broken parts make the item not suitable.
What can’t I donate?
Any of the following items must not be donated:
- Duvets
- Pillows
- Broken or dirty items
- Sharp object including cooking knives
- Hangers
- Food
- Bikes
- Helmets
If you are not taking these items please dispose of them at the appropriate waste points.
Where can I put my donations?
Avery Hill Campus: you will find three large British Heart Foundation donation boxes in The Dome, you can get bags from The Dome Reception.
Greenwich Campus: donation boxes are in the reception of Daniel Defoe, Cutty Sark and Devonport.
Medway Campus: you can donate clothes at the Merlin reception where there is a box, if this is full there is a Good Samaritans clothes donation compound for donations.
Please bag and tie your items.
I have donated, now what?
Fantastic! Thank you for sorting, checking, and donating the item(s). Please encourage your friends to do the same and remember to ask your friends if they would like any of your items before you donate them.
I heard there was an alternative way to donate, and swap clothes?
A group of students have formed Un/Archived Textiles and it started with the same students hosting a ‘Clothes Shwop’ last year. For every item you donate, you get a marble, and then at the main event, you exchange the marbles for a new wardrobe.
Un/Archived Textiles will be in The Dome on Wednesday 26 May. If you want to swap clothes and donate yours to other students, please visit.
Whether it is donating or swapping, we all have the power to make a positive difference no matter how small the action.
