New Vice-Chancellor starts at Greenwich


Professor Jane Harrington has begun her tenure as the University’s new Vice-Chancellor

Professor Jane Harrington has begun her tenure as the University's new Vice-Chancellor.

Professor Harrington joins the university from the University of the West of England (UWE) where she was Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost.

On her appointment, Professor Harrington said: "I am pleased to be here at the University of Greenwich.  

"I'm passionate about the powers of higher education to transform people's lives and have seen how with the support of staff and the whole infrastructure of the university students can succeed. 

"The power of partnerships is also important and  I'm keen to understand the partnerships we already have and the scope for developing new partnerships.  

"I am really passionate about the ability that universities have to develop applied research that has a real impact on society."

Professor Harrington has worked in higher education for over 25 years and her specific interests include teaching excellence, the student experience, widening access into higher education and social mobility and improving partnership working across the business and university sectors.

Professor Harrington succeeds Professor David Maguire, who left the University last week.
