School of Accounting, Finance and Economics (AFE) students secure top global rankings in prestigious Bloomberg Trading Challenge
The School of Accounting, Finance and Economics (AFE) is celebrating a remarkable international achievement, as its students excelled in the intense, month-long Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge held in November 2025. Competing against 2,695 teams from top universities worldwide, AFE students demonstrated exceptional talent and strategic skill in a simulation of real global financial markets.
Leading the charge was the team “Bulls & Bears”, supervised by Dr. Lianfeng Quan and Dr. Mohammad Alahmad. The team achieved an impressive 48th place globally, placing them in the top 2% of all participants. Their performance was so strong that they also earned 10th place on the European Leaderboard, highlighting their regional dominance.
The success did not stop there. Two additional AFE teams, “Guys Next” and “Nextgen Investors”, reinforced this outstanding collective performance by securing prestigious positions within the global top 200.
This achievement reflects the talent and dedication of AFE students, as well as the strong support from faculty mentors and the AFE Senior Management Team. Through access to industry-standard resources like the Bloomberg Terminal and an environment that encourages real-world application, AFE continues to empower students to compete and succeed on the global stage.

Reflections on the Knowledge Exchange Awards Ceremony
The University of Greenwich is delighted to celebrate the Spirits of the Black Meridian, which was shortlisted for the prestigious Knowledge Exchange UK Awards, within the Place-Based Initiative category. The awards ceremony took place on Thursday 27 November at the Lowry in Salford and recognised outstanding knowledge exchange collaborations between academia and external partners.
Dr James McLaughlin (Senior Lecturer in Drama, School of Design & Creative Industries) attended the event as the project lead from the University of Greenwich, accompanied by Jackie Fotheringham, the Knowledge Exchange Manager at Greenwich Research and Innovation.
Greenwich did not take home the award this time, but it was an honour to be recognised for such a significant and impactful project.
The annual Knowledge Exchange UK Awards celebrate outstanding achievements across the Knowledge Exchange community, recognising impactful collaborations and innovative partnerships across the UK and beyond.
Jackie Fotheringham, Knowledge Exchange Manager, Greenwich Research and Innovation said:
Each year the University of Greenwich Knowledge Exchange community grows stronger. Many congratulations to James and the team for this prestigious achievement.
Manuel Ribas Piera International Landscape Schools Prize 2025 heads to Greenwich
The Landscape Architecture programmes at Greenwich have been recognised with the Ribas Piera International Landscape Architecture School Prize as part of the 13th Barcelona International Biennial of Landscape Architecture.
At the ceremony in Barcelona, the Manuel Ribas Piera International Landscape Schools Prize was awarded to New Coasts from the University of Greenwich for five projects that represent the culmination of three years of creating landscapes as tapestries that tell stories of the Thames and the North Sea, impacted by climate.
The University was part of a 10-strong shortlist from 65 university submissions from around the world. During the Biennial, Prof. Ed Wall presented the Greenwich student projects and the teaching approach. In their own words, the jury highlighted "the unique and rigorous pedagogy of the project, the representation of a highly collaborative and empathetic study culture as well as the recognition of the urgency of coastal adaptation projects in the context of contemporary regulatory environments."
With the support of Fundació Banc Sabadell, the winning university receives an endowment of €1,500. Two firms founded by Greenwich alum were also shortlisted for the Rosa Barba International Landscape Prize 2025. Read more here.
