A successful Greenwich Innovation Challenge
The first Greenwich Innovation Challenge, organised by our Faculty of Engineering and Science, for girls and non-binary students explored the brief: what happens when you ask 20+ Year 10 girls how to make their community better for 15-18 year olds?
The aim was to enable them to explore STEM education and careers in a supportive environment, using industry methods.
The girls from Woolwich Polytechnic and the John Roan School worked collaboratively in teams and created:
- personas reflecting deep insights into the target group
- a synthesis of the different aspects of the problem
- a mind map of possible solutions
- a conceptual model and prototype of their solution.
By engaging young talent, we hope they will consider STEM subjects and careers. Well done to the team who helped make it happen; Cornelia Boldyreff, Nageena Frost Baldeep Kaur, Vidushii Rajiv Verma and Hayley Smith.
Alumni Monique Dotsey is tackling food waste
In 2022, Monique won the Engagement and Progress Award at our Enterprise Challenge finals along with a Generator Bursary funded by Santander.
This helped her to start her venture for Imperfect Yet Yummy, a social enterprise tackling food waste by teaching children in school to cook with leftover food.
Since leaving the university Monique has continued to develop her business at a local school and teaches after-school clubs and workshops.
You can read more about her journey in this article from the Generator.
