Find out why studying nursing at the University of Greenwich gives graduates an edge by attending an open day at the Avery Hill campus on Saturday (23 November).

The 2019 National Student Survey results confirmed that the University of Greenwich is number one in London for overall student satisfaction for nursing and the campus, set on the edge of Avery Hill Park, offers degree courses which qualify students to become Registered Nurses.

Greenwich also offer a two-year foundation degree that leads to a qualification as Nursing Associates, who provide support to nurses and wider multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of high-quality care.

This course equips students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need to work in a wide range of health settings, including acute, community and continuing care services.

Talking about her experience of the course and studying at Avery Hill, former nursing associate student Ruth Fortune (pictured) said: "For me, it's been a wonderful journey. It`s been hugely empowering through the knowledge and learning I gained while at university. I have thoroughly enjoyed the learning process, I've grown in self-confidence though the knowledge I gained, I've had the most fantastic opportunities that have exposed me to incredible experiences.

"My proudest achievement so far has been that I've been awarded a scholarship from the Florence Nightingale Foundation on its first Leadership course for nursing associates. The course is designed to help us develop better leadership qualities by becoming more aware of our own leadership style, the impact we have on others and developing greater confidence and self-reliance."

As a test site for the national Nursing Associate pilot programme since April 2017, the University provides specialised simulation facilities at the Avery Hill campus, and working in partnership with NHS trusts across South East London and Kent, it offers hands-on workplace experiences.

Ruth added: "I enjoyed all my placements; I experienced such variety. The placement I found most exhausting, but most rewarding, was a local hospice. I was touched, honoured and very privileged to be able to spend time there working with some skilled practitioners caring for some very vulnerable people and supporting their families.
