Supporting successful Higher Education visits on campus

The events which took place on campus brought some of our local school and college students onto our campuses before the end of the school year and gave them insight into our facilities and subject areas.

Tower building engineering challengeOur Education Support Unit (ESU) in Communications & Recruitment have recently run three successful Higher Education visits tailoring each day for the partner school or college attending. They have also supported a fourth Higher Education Day led by the Faculty of Engineering and Science for one of our local nurture schools.

It was great to hold these on-campus events, our first in over 18 months.  We welcomed the following schools/colleges to the events:

  • Shooters Hill Sixth Form College – 26 June – Greenwich Campus
  • Waterfront UTC – 7 July – Medway Campus
  • Royal Greenwich Trust School – 8 July – Greenwich Campus
  • Eltham Hill – 16 July – Medway Campus

Students attending heard from ESU staff members and student ambassadors about life at university.  FES also provided an excellent insight into some of their facilities and subject areas, demonstrating these through engaging activities and workshops such as a tower building engineering challenge, and a ‘medicine or sweets’ pharmacy workshop.

Many thanks to everyone in the Faculty of Engineering and Science, and especially to Hayley Smith, for all your support in making these events a success.

If you want to learn more about the school and college outreach activities which ESU delivers, or if you work in one of our faculties and are interested in supporting the university’s outreach programme, please get in touch by email: esu@gre.ac.uk
